The momentum of DuraFlex continues

Colordyne launches 2800 Series AP – Retrofit

Last fall, Memjet introduced DuraFlex® technology. Since then, OEMs around the globe have used this digital printing technology to develop a new breed of affordable printing solutions that deliver high-quality output at high speeds. Colordyne’s 2800 Series AP – Retrofit Powered by Memjet is the latest example of this type of solution.

The 2800 Series AP – Retrofit is a compact, single-pass inkjet engine that allows existing analog equipment to incorporate the benefits of full color digital printing while maintaining its original functionality. Benefits include faster turnaround times, on-demand production and affordable short run printing.

“Memjet’s DuraFlex inkjet technology with aqueous pigment inks has allowed us to develop a retrofit solution that provides greater production flexibility, added print durability and enhanced quality for our customers,” says John Urban, director of engineering at Colordyne Technologies.

Setting this system apart from other light production printers and presses is its wider print width of 12.75 in (324 mm) from a single A3+ printhead, its fast entry-level print speeds and high-quality output through two times the nozzle redundancy at 1600 x 1600 dpi resolution.

“The use of aqueous pigment inks was a key driver in developing the 2800 Series AP – Retrofit,” admits Urban. “There is a need in the label and tag space for a light production print engine using durable water-based pigment inks. Our customers are looking for solutions with more flexibility allowing them to create more durable labels as well as labels for food and beverage products.”

According to John Ortiz, VP of ink and materials at Memjet, “Our chemists optimize our aqueous ink formulations for a myriad of performance requirements, always cognizant of each ingredient’s suitability for sensitive applications. Additionally, being free from toxic and reactive chemistries makes them safer for the earth and for the people handling them — an essential differentiator for those navigating the complex world of food contact materials (FCM) compliance in the food and beverage market.
