Desktop Publishing: Digitizing Documents
The core benefit of document digitization are:
1. Preservation of Content:
Digitizing old books through Desktop Publishing (DTP) helps preserve their content in a digital format, reducing the risk of physical deterioration or loss.
2. Efficient Information Retrieval:
Digital documents created through DTP facilitate quick and efficient information retrieval, improving research and reference capabilities.
3. Annotation and Markup:
Digital documents allow for easy annotation and markup, enabling researchers, scholars, and historians to add their insights and analysis directly to the text without altering the original document.
4. Cost-Effective Archiving:
DTP provides a cost-effective solution for archiving old books, eliminating the need for extensive physical storage space and reducing associated maintenance costs.

9moJust to add a bit more historical context, I think a shout-out to PODi and the advent of PPML would be appropriate here as that basically enabled modern VDP capabilities on most DFE's from just about every manufacturer. In fact despite PDF/VT's emergence as the new VDP standard, we still find with our DesignMerge Pro variable data customers that there are certain jobs better-suited for PPML and continue to fully support both PDF/VT and PPML (as well as PostScript and VPS, of course).
