Canon Solutions America Speaks About Print 17: Pete Kowalczuk, Canon Solutions America

September 8, 2017

csa Pete KowalczukPete Kowalczuk is Executive Vice President and General Manager of Enterprise Services and Solutions at Canon Solutions America. Julie Plata, co-CEO of OutputLinks Communications Group, had an engaging conversation with Pete and talked about what he is looking forward to at PRINT 17.

Pete sees PRINT 17 as a significant opportunity to interact with Canon Solutions America’s customer base, continue to build relationships, and showcase some of the new items that are going to be brought to the market. It’s also an opportunity for prospects and customers to understand the full capabilities Canon Solutions America offers in the production environment.

Pete is a veteran of Canon Solutions America’s evolution, having started in 1984 as a salesperson with Ambassador Office Equipment, a Canon subsidiary in Chicago.  He gained leadership experience through various management roles. When Canon acquired Océ and brought the two organizations together in 2012 as Canon Solutions America, Pete was promoted to senior vice president of sales, a position with national scope and responsibility.

In his current position, as executive vice president and general manager of Enterprise Services and Solutions , Pete’s responsibility is to ensure that everything from customer service, sales, to break-fix, technical service, and professional service is coordinated across the entire Canon Solutions America operation.

PRINT 17 is an event that helps Pete maintain constant contact with customers to better understand customer needs. The conference also fosters discussions related to opportunities that can be unlocked with the right set of tools and services. If those tools and services cannot be sourced or developed internally, Enterprise Services and Solutions may need to establish new partnerships, or acquire a technology or company to meet the client need.

Some examples of these paths, Pete shares, “We’ve partnered with providers such as CGS Publishing Technologies to co-develop a cloud-based color management tool, known as COLORlynx.  Leveraging the COLORlynx platform, we’re able to put powerful technology in the hands of more customers, while aligning the system’s capabilities and user experience with the skill set of the operators.

Through our partnership with Aleyant, we’re able to provide our customers with a powerful, yet easy to use storefront, known as Pressero, which can quickly be customized to meet the needs of print service providers and their clients. Through the expansion of that partnership, Canon Solutions America will soon release workflow automation capabilities and MIS features that enable commercial grade end-to-end production workflow solutions to be within the grasp of every customer.

Executing Solutions

Pete knows that having the right portfolio of products is only half of the success equation. He highlights Canon Solutions America’s capabilities to help customers assess and address not only technical opportunities, but the business processes that they enable and support.

“We have a very rich tradition in document management and document workflow, and we have consultants that help customers focus on any aspect of the business. Their experience comes from corporate environments, higher education institutions, medical and healthcare related industries, and more.  Their knowledge and experience with the requirements of these fields can help printers become better at serving the print needs of these customers and prospects. They can also help design and transform their business processes and production workflows to help them expand outside of their core business.”

Pete says, “We take every aspect of what we do every day and really focus on bringing all those actions to the table. At PRINT 17, we will be showcasing our color Canon imagePRESS product line including the C750/C850 series and the C8000VP/C10000VP series. We'll also be talking about our Océ VarioPrint 6000, which has been designed to meet the demands of high-volume monochrome production print.”

Advisory Council

Pete is also a big fan of Canon Solutions America’s Production Advisory Council. This group of executives from both the commercial print industry and in-plant operations gives Canon Solutions America the opportunity to understand where customers see their business models and go-to market strategies heading. The feedback they provide helps Canon Solutions America understand how to help them achieve their vision.

Pete also adds, “Our Enterprise Services and Solutions focus is on those types of devices and all the solutions that go along with them to make sure that our customers can fully utilize every aspect of the hardware that they acquire from us.”
