Vatican installs MBO folder

The Vatican printing house has ordered a folding machine from MBO (Westampton, NJ) for the first time. The K 800 Perfection combination folder will be installed in an environment that is both sophisticated and historically significant.
The roots of the “Tipografia Vaticana” go back as far as the year 1587. Its collection and selection of fonts is considered unique worldwide. Now, the printing house primarily deals with printing papal files, official documents and liturgical books, often in large print runs. “The challenge for the folding machine in this case is not only the high throughput, but also the use of very different types of paper,” says MBO Germany managing director Manfred Minich.
The machine reportedly reduces changeover time and downtime significantly. Its High-Grip spiral fold rollers with soft polyurethane provide a safe transport, even for challenging tasks like bible and recycling papers. The digital “Navigator Control” includes a unique imposition catalogue containing approximately 1,000 folding types.
Unlike conventional folding knives, the patented Vacuknife version from MBO does not simply push the sheet towards the fold rollers, but keeps constant contact with every sheet until it is grabbed by the fold rollers to ensure maximum folding and perforating precision.
