UPM, Time to receive conservation award

Kathy Abusow, president and CEO of the Sustainable Forestry Initiative, has presented the first-ever SFI Leadership in Conservation Award to UPM-Kymmene Inc., Time Inc., the Université of Moncton, the Nature Conservancy of Canada, Bird Studies Canada and the New Brunswick Dept. of Natural Resources.
The firms are collaborating on a study that is expected to improve forestry practices in Canada's Acadian forests. The study is being conducted on public forest lands in Canada managed by UPM.
SFI Inc. is a 501c(3) non-profit organization and is solely responsible for maintaining, overseeing and improving the Sustainable Forestry Initiative program. SFI Inc. directs all elements of the Sustainable Forestry Initiative program including the SFI Standard, chain-of-custody certification, labeling and marketing. SFI Inc. is overseen by a three-chamber Board of Directors representing social, environmental and economic sectors.
