Sappi announces Printer of the Year Gold Award winners

Sappi Fine Paper North America (Boston) has announced the six 2003 Gold Award winners in the company’s annual Printer of the Year competition. These printers will go on to compete in October for the Sappi International Printer of the Year Award, the only global honor of its kind that recognizes excellence in printing craftsmanship.

Nearly 600 printers from across North America submitted more than 3,100 entries in this year’s competition. One Gold Award winner was chosen in each of six categories. The winning printers were announced at a gala dinner in Puerto Rico. The winners are:

• Allied Printing Services, Inc. (Manchester, CT) in the annual report category

• Meridian Printing (East Greenwich, RI) in the books category

• Classic Graphics (Charlotte, NC) in the brochure category

• Quebecor World-Jonesboro, AR, division in the catalogs category

• Quebecor World-Effingham, IL, division in the magazine category

• Woods Lithographics (Phoenix) in the general category.

MagnaPrint (Enfield, CT) received a Judges’ Award for Excellence in Printer Self-Promotion.

A single North American Printer of the Year will be announced at the Sappi International Printer of the Year event this fall. The chosen North American winner, along with the South African, Sappi Trading and European Printers of the Year, will then compete for the 2003 Sappi International Printer of the Year honor.
