Jan 21, 2004 12:00 PM, AP staff
The second annual Books for Schools program will be hosted at the On Demand Conference and Expo 2004, scheduled to take place March 8-10 at the Jacob Javits Convention Center in New York City. Companies involved in the literacy program, including Delphax, Muller Martini, Stralfors, Shuttleworth, Keene Technology, Inc., Boise Paper and Xeikon, will produce classic books in real time to demonstrate print-on-demand technologies. The participation of these partners will reportedly produce a 200 page book every five seconds. More than 6,000 classic texts, such as The Last of the Mohicans, The Odyssey and Sherlock Holmes books, will be printed, bound and donated to local schools, courtesy of the New York City Dept. of Education Office of Strategic Partnerships. An acceptance ceremony will take place Wednesday, March 10.
The print-on-demand technologies will be found in booth 3004. For more information about On Demand 2004, visit www.ondemandexpo.com. To find further information on the Books for Schools program and participating companies, access www.ondemandbooksforschools.com.
