Peter the Printer goes green
Dec 20, 2006 5:20 PM
Peter the Printer (Hoffman Estates, IL), a division of Plum Grove Printers, has announced an environmental initiative. Designed to transform the company into an industry leader in green printing, the plan includes recycling, renewable resources and donations to reforestation programs.
“Green printing is a very exciting frontier for us,” says CEO Peter Lineal. “We want to prove to the world, and ourselves, just how environmentally friendly we can be. Green alternatives are out there, and while they are marginally more expensive, we want to show that it’s well within the means of small press printers to adopt green policies.”
The initiative calls for changing consumption and waste patterns, increasing staff’s environmental consciousness, and designing the firm’s new production building to be eco-friendly. Plum Grove Printers is now powered by 100 percent noncarbon sources, including 60 percent wind power. The firm intends to increase its use of recycled paper to 90 percent of its total tonnage and aims to have a 99 percent recycling or reuse rate with inks, rags and incoming packaging/containers. The company also will offset paper usage by making donations to the Nature Conservacy and the Printer’s National Environmental Assistance Center.
