Pace Industries increases renewable energy use
Feb 22, 2008 5:02 PM
Pace Industries Inc. (Reedsburg, WI), an EPA Green Power Partner, starts 2008 with a third increase to its renewable energy purchases. This commitment complements a notable offering of sustainable products and practices to further what Pace considers a corporate and personal responsibility.
Pace’s initial step into renewable energy was in 2006. At that time there were one or two other manufacturers in Wisconsin who had joined the Wisconsin Public Power Inc. (WPPI) alternative energy program. Initially Pace began with a commitment equating to the energy required by 52 homes each year. With this third and most recent increase, Pace is using alternative energy equivalent to the energy required by 200 homes annually.
The largest gain was due to Pace being awarded a WPPI grant for an improved air compressor system. Three older units were put to rest and replaced with one central, highly efficient unit. To meet the grant requirements, a 50kW energy reduction was mandated and needed to be certified. In fulfillment of the grant requirements an outside verification of efficiency was performed. The seven day audit showed the new compressor had an efficiency rating of 96 percent. Not only was the reduction met, but it was almost doubled. This reduction in power usage translates to trimming over 311 tons of CO2 emissions.
