Book printer chooses DI press for covers

Jun 19, 2008 2:36 PM

Presstek, Inc. (Hudson, NH) announces Canadian book printer Friesens Corp. has chosen the Presstek 52DI digital offset press to print covers for its Book and Yearbook divisions.

With over 600 employees, Friesens publishes books across North America and specializes in color hardcover and softcover books.

“We were looking for a way to address the requirements we have for short-run, high-quality book covers, which we could not produce profitably on our larger presses,” says Curwin Friesen, president of Freisens Corp. “After evaluating the 52DI, we have found our answer. The Presstek 52DI is the perfect complement to our multiple 40-inch and 50-inch presses. We now print the covers on the DI and the higher volume of pages and covers on our larger presses.”

The Presstek 52DI is a 52cm landscape format press with a maximum sheet size of 510 x 360 mm. The waterless technology of the 52DI press, in addition to the 2:1 rollout ratio of the ink train, provide benefits in ink coverage and the ability to print solids. This press supports 300-lpi printing as well as stochastic (FM) screening, and it can handle substrates from onion skin to heavy card stock, as well as synthetics.
