PRESS RELEASE
Graphic Arts Show Company (GASC) (Reston, VA) will again participate in the "Books for Schools" program, a partnership to produce and donate literary works for the Chicago city school system. Spearheaded by Delphax Technologies (Minnetonka, MN), eight Graph Expo exhibitors will produce books live on Chicago's McCormick Place show floor. The group consists of manufacturers of printing and binding equipment, creating a full production line by contributing to the process via each company's specific industry niche:
- Delphax will print the interior pages
- Glatfelter (York, PA) will supply the paper
- Keene Technology, Inc. (KTI) (South Beloit, IL) will supply a splicer
- MBO America (Westampton, NJ) will supply folders
- Muller Martini(Hauppauge, NY) will do the binding
- Shuttleworth (Huntington, IN) will supply the conveyor system
- Stralfors (United Kingdom) will supply a cutter/stacker
- Xeikon (Itasca, IL) will print the book covers
The books will be printed from already prepared files at a rate of 60 pages per second using a Delphax model CR2000 digital web printer, to be introduced to the North American market during the show. The publications will then be collated, trimmed, stacked, glued, covered and bound while visitors watch, and finally offered to interested visitors as a sample of the various technologies working together. The majority, however, will go to English classrooms throughout the city of Chicago.
