Big D Bindery makes a big move

They say everything’s big in Texas, and Big D Bindery in Dallas is no exception. The full-service bindery recently installed a Corona C12 perfect binder from Muller Martini (Hauppauge, NY). With this installation, the company plans to expand its business opportunities among new customers while also better meeting the demands of its current clients.
Big D Bindery’s 75 employees perform a range of binding services that includes hardcover perfect binding, sewn case binding, lay-flat, PUR and EVA. They also offer cased-in Wire-O, coil-locked spiral, plasticoil and automatic Wire-O.
“We are running jobs in as little as 4 hours that in the past would have taken up to 2 days to produce,” says John McGee, plant manager at Big D Bindery, Inc. (Dallas).
The Corona C12 perfect binder replaced a decades-old Muller Martini Norm Binder. McGee says, “We went with Muller Martini for the quality, speed and efficiency of their finishing systems and also because of the fact that our other binders were also from Muller.”
The Muller Martini Corona perfect binding line is designed for both high-volume and short-run production of books, manuals, directories, magazines and catalogs. Utilizing its Commander Central Control System and menu-guided set-up, Corona provides computer-assisted motorized makeready in 15 minutes. The Corona line (which includes the C12, C13, C15 and C18) is capable of speeds from 12,000 to 18,000 cycles/hr.
