Arandell Corp. (Menomonee Falls, WI), producer of direct mail catalogs and marketing material, has received Orion Energy Systems' (Plymouth, WI) Environmental Stewardship Award for the energy-efficient lighting project in its 425,000 sq.-ft. manufacturing facilities. Arandell expects to save 1.78 million kilowatts hours (kWh) annually and 35.7 million kWh over the sustainable lifetime of the lighting fixtures. The project is being managed and supplied by Orion Energy Systems.
Arandell's VP and general manager says, "We were able to observe a 50 percent energy savings, while at the same time we were measuring 60 percent more light. Plus, we were getting better and more even light coverage through the entire plant. The new depreciation allowances for capital goods purchased in 2004 were also a hidden benefit."
The lighting project will decrease air pollution and environmental damage over the lifetime of Orion's fixture, the Illuminator, by 26,702 tons of carbon dioxide, 7,282 tons of carbon, 98 tons of sulfur dioxide, 228 tons of nitrous oxides and four lbs. of mercury--the equivalent of saving 3.2 million gallons of gas or planting 6,533 acres of trees. In addition, Arandell will take enough power off the electrical grid to provide enough electricity to power 204 homes or a bedroom community of over 906 people, according to the EPA formula.
