Creo Products Inc. (Burnaby, BC) and Artwork Systems Group N.V. (Gent, Belgium) have reached an out-of-court settlement over a patent dispute filed in the U.S. District Court for the District of Delaware over software technology. In October 2001, Artwork Systems sued Creo to invalidate four patents that it had been licensing for several years. The two companies were negotiating an amendment to the existing contract that would extend the license to allow Creo's trapping patents to be used in Artwork's RIPs and output device drivers.
With the settlement, Creo and Artwork Systems mutually agreed to dismiss their claims and counterclaims; Creo further agreed to extend the license originally granted to Artwork Systems in 1997 to cover additional trapping software.
