ROLE OBJECTIVE:
The purpose of this role is to lead new product development projects that support the business requirements of the Avery Dennison. This person will lead a cross-Product Technology group responsible for insuring that the company remains a leader in adhesive technology and stays linked globally with adhesive developments and needs.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • provide technical & project leadership for key new product development projects

  • responsible for driving adhesive technology platform development in North America

  • develop & maintain strong relationships with adhesive vendors

  • ensure that technical excellence is maintained within the adhesive component support group

  • responsibilities will cross all adhesive technologies i.e. emulsion, hot melt, solvent and new developments

  • advise technical & business management on adhesive technology trends and opportunities

  • keep abreast of competitive situation in adhesive technology

  • support training and development of personnel in the adhesive support group.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/COMPETENCIES:

  • Ability to translate voice of customer into technical specifications for product and process design.

  • Strong project management skills.

  • Ability and desire to coach and mentor technicians, technologists and scientists.

  • Strong leadership skills with capability to develop into PTI management.

  • Knowledge of statistical tools, including DOE, required with preference given to certified Six Sigma Black Belts.

  • Ability to lead product development projects thru commercialization.

  • B.S./M.S./Ph.D in chemistry, polymer physics or engineering (chemical, polymer) or equivalent.

  • Prefer individuals with a minimum of 5 years industrial experience in adhesive development or manufacture.
