Presenting the top 100 plus
Jul 1, 1995 12:00 PM
Welcome to AMERICAN PRINTER'S 1995 listing of the Top 100+ printing companies in North America. In addition to the main ranking by sales volume, added features include breakouts of the Top 25 leaders by percentage increase in sales and sales per employee, as well as an alphabetical listing for easy reference and breakdowns of significant ownership changes and plant openings/closings.
Because we continually work to refine this list, you'll find some names not previously listed (ownership changes and growth spurts also play a role). While every effort has been made to ensure the accuracy of the ranking, in some cases it has been necessary to estimate revenues. We thank all of those industry executives who were willing to share their information with us.
The industry leaders appear to have been expansion minded in 1994, with a high level of acquisitions, new plant openings and facility expansions. Despite the large number of acquisitions, strikingly absent were the megadeals of recent years. The most interesting moves probably were Quebecor Printing's acquisition of Arcata Graphics (#28 in 1994's listing), Maclean Hunter's divestiture of its printing holdings (#25 in 1994) and the recent decision by Journal Communications to split off its Perry Printing division (#54 in 1995).
