DR. HELL PASSES AWAY AT 100
May 1, 2002 12:00 PM
Dr. Rudolph Hell, the inventor who laid the groundwork for development of the fax machine and color scanner, died March 15. The German city of Kiel made the announcement; it was here that Hell re-established his business, Dr.-Ing. Rudolph Hell GmbH, after the original facility in Berlin was destroyed in World War II. The firm was acquired by Siemens in 1981, and in 1990 merged with Linotype AG to become Linotype-Hell AG. Hell celebrated his 100th birthday this past December at a celebration hosted by Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG and the city of Kiel.
