Mike Popp, vice president of press operations, Quad/Graphics (Pewaukee, WI), has been named the 2003 Pressroom Operations Manager of the Year by the R & E Council of NAPL (Paramus, NJ). The annual award, established in 2002, recognizes excellence in pressroom production management. The award was presented to Popp at the R & E Council's 29th Annual Progress in the Pressroom Seminar in Chicago.
Popp's nomination was submitted by Quad/Graphics president and CEO Tom Quadracci and supported by Quad/Graphics client Hans Wegner, vice president of production services for National Geographic, and vendor Chris Clement, a product manager for Heidelberg Web Systems (Dover, NH). “Mike is an extremely effective leader and a staunch advocate for his production staff and their processes. He continually searches out opportunities for improvement,” notes Quadracci. Popp joined Quad/Graphics in 1972 as the company's 13th employee.
