New York City, July 1, 2015 – In the first half of 2015, 60 magazines launched and 23 magazines closed, reported MediaFinder.com—the largest online database of U.S. and Canadian publications.
Compared to the first six months of 2014, the number of magazine closures was down from 30 last year to 23 this year. At the same time, 93 new magazines launched last year, compared to 60 launches in the first half of 2015.
In the first half of 2015, new magazine launches included Smithsonian Journeys, Organic Life, and Adventure Outdoors. Among the 23 magazines that closed were Lucky and Nylon for Guys.
In the business-to-business magazine category, five titles launched in the first half of this year, including Emerge, compared to 15 magazines that launched during the same period last year. Four b-to-b magazines ceased publication in the first half of this year, including Re:form, while four ceased publication last year.
